Dear Mr. President:

Founded in 2016, Korean Americans for Trump is a grassroots-driven effort to support your Presidency and  represent conservative-minded Korean-Americans who are standing with you. We are committed to building strong, united support for you among the 2 million Korean Americans across the Nation.  We are proud to belong to a diverse, patriotic, and devoted coalition of minorities and women that will be essential to your landslide victory in 2020.

We believe in the Trump Doctrine, which aligns closely with the interests of Korean-Americans who value liberty, religious freedom, peace, strong families, and meritocracy.  We thank you for your remarkable leadership in achieving unprecedented job growth, reducing the unemployment rate, and lowering taxes for American families. We are grateful that you signed an Executive Order on Economic Empowerment of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.  Korean-Americans are winning in the Trump economy, that builds entrepreneurship and allows families to keep the fruits of their labor. No President has done more to ensure the economic and educational opportunities for our community.

We fully support your “pro-American, pro-immigrant, and pro-worker approach to immigration by fully securing the border and moving our outdated legal immigration system to a competitive, merit-based system.”  The success and achievements of Korean-Americans across this great Nation, demonstrate that immigrants thrive when excellence, ingenuity, and hard work are rewarded. Your immigration reforms helps all Americans, regardless of ethnic background, to achieve and live the American Dream.

Further, we wish to express our deepest appreciation to you for your bold and tireless efforts in promoting permanent peace and denuclearization on the Korean peninsula.  In the present day, no world leader has ever spoken out more than you have to address true peace in the Korean peninsula. On November 7, 2017, you gave a powerful and moving address to the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea.  You acknowledged that South Korea has been a “tremendously successful nation” due to free market enterprise and capitalism. You applauded South Korea for being a “proud, sovereign, and independent people…that demanded the right to govern themselves.” You clearly and accurately described the misery and human rights abuses in North Korea.  And you received a standing ovation for your glorious declaration: “Together, we dream of a Korea that is free, a peninsula that is safe, and families that are reunited once again…Our hearts are praying for the day when all Koreans can live in freedom.”

It has been many years since America had a President who honored North Korean defectors at a State of Union address, as you did on January 31, 2018.  We applaud you for recognizing the parents of Otto Warmbier.

Mr. President, we believe that God has put you in this place as the leader of the Free World and ask that you remain strong in your conviction. While we do not believe that Kim will ever give up his nuclear weapons, you must be firm that FFID must be accomplished first by North Korea before any declaration, compromise, lifting of sanctions, or any actions is taken that could help keep Kim in power.

Moreover, you held two historic summit meetings with the North Korean leader in the last one year, as well as numerous summit meetings with President Moon of the Republic of Korea.  We believe that you should receive a Nobel Peace Prize for all your efforts to ease military tensions and promote democracy in Korea. We fully support your relentless and unwavering resolve to achieve permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula in the near future.  We are confident that you will succeed in realizing the three goals that were committed at the Singapore Summit, and urge you to stay true to your early convictions. As you said, South Korea and the US are blood allies and this alliance must remain perpetual and permanent.

Although Asian-Americans are the fastest-growing minority group in the United States, there are low levels of civic engagement, political activism, and voter turnout.  We plan to work with members of your President’s Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders as well as the White House Asian-American Pacific Islander Initiative to change these statistics.  Our goal is to educate, inform, and motivate our communities to elect you again in 2020. We look forward to building upon your historic victory and being part of the movement to prioritize American interests and make America “once again a shining city on a hill.”

God bless you and God bless America,

Korean Americans for Trump, Lisa Shin
